City-Owned Preserve to be Opened as Part of West Coyote Hills PlanThe Robert E. Ward Nature Preserve is 72 acres of City-owned land adjacent to the West Coyote Hills property, named for the former Fullerton Mayor, Bob Ward. Chevron donated the majority of the acreage in the Preserve to the City more than 25 years ago, but it has remained closed to the public because no city funds were designated for its planning and operation. In order to finally open the land to the public, Pacific Coast Homes agreed to pay for and incorporate preliminary planning and environmental analysis for the Ward Preserve into its overall West Coyote Hills planning efforts. With City approval of the West Coyote Hills plan, the Robert E. Ward Nature Preserve would finally be opened to the public. The Robert E. Ward Nature Preserve features the most impressive display of flora and fauna in this section of West Coyote Hills. Its topography, habitat and location promise unique recreational and educational opportunities for Fullerton residents of all ages. In addition, proposed homes within the adjacent planned West Coyote Hills community were relocated to protect views from within the Robert E. Ward Nature Preserve. |
