West Coyote Hills Home

Fire Protection plan

The Fullerton Fire Dept. and U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service collaborated with Pacific Coast Homes to prepare a Fire Protection Plan for West Coyote Hills to reduce the fire threat to existing homes, create a safe environment for new homes and allow for a healthy and expansive nature preserve. Some elements of the plan include:

  • Homes at West Coyote Hills would be protected by fuel modification zones that have proven to be highly effective in recent Southern California wildfires, especially when complemented with new, ignition-resistant construction.
  • West Coyote Hills homes would be ignition resistant, with roofs, vents and windows designed to prevent the penetration of fire-starting embers.
  • About half of the highly flammable fuels (dead or very flammable plants) on the property would be removed, significantly reducing the wildfire risk to neighborhoods surrounding the property.
  • Pacific Coast Homes will provide the Fullerton Fire Dept with a $200,000 brush truck that is specifically designed to fight fires in wilderness areas.
